| Sichuan, a year later… |
The spotlight may have shifted from Sichuan, as news and updates about the earthquake have significantly lessened as compared to when it first hit, but we still hold the victims and all who were affected dear to our hearts. Many souls perished during that unforgettable earthquake a year ago. It often leaves people wondering why such a thing happened. But a year out, souls have found Hope eternal as they have had the chance to contemplate on the meaning of life and the meaning of a Savior. The 5/12 earthquake caused buildings to tumble and lives to be left in desolation, but God did not forsake them, not even for a second. He saw from the beginning to open this door of opportunity for us to reach out to those who would otherwise be beyond our reach. Buildings were still left in shambles and the pain of losing loved ones remains tender to the touch. Although rebuilding the devastated region may take many years, the rebuilding of broken lives has already begun, with the different meeting places reporting an increase in attendance since the earthquake. We truly thank God for using us, despite our much-too-obvious limitations and humanness. Our goal is to help equip brothers and sisters, prompting them to serve more effectively with the gifts God has given them. We pray that through training the Mian Yang Choir, they will become a blessing to their community and neighboring cities. We don’t have much to offer, except to have the willingness to leave the comfort of our homes, go to a place that has, materialistically, less than what we possess (but are often times richer than we are spiritually!), and offer ourselves, sharing with them, through music, the hope we find in the One who has created everything and loved us since the beginning. With the little that we have, reaching souls, changing one life at a time… |
