Thoughts on Pulse’s 2004 Ministry
– Let Go, Let God

by Leo Wong

We are Pulse and God is our heartbeat, the vital force of our rhythm. At every step we want to follow in His way as closely as we can.

Feb 21st of 2004 was the first time that Pulse performed publicly and indeed it was a very special day. It was the day of jnX’s 3rd anniversary concert and it was a whole new experience for Pulse in many different aspects. We had more practices than we have ever had before, and we performed in front of our largest crowd yet. I was responsible for leading worship that night and at that moment I had a very strong conviction - “This is what we are called to do!” I felt that it was a confirmation from God.

The year 2004 was a very busy year. We served in a lot of different events and one of the most memorable was the “Pulse of Jesus at Faith” series.

When our advisor Anthony Chan told us of the invitation from Faith Chinese Alliance Church, we were very excited. It is our vision to bring people to the Lord through worship and it was a great chance to do just that. We experienced God’s mercy and power during these three events in September, October, and November. We had a wonderful time serving with brothers and sisters from the church and Linkson Production.

God is humorous. Sometimes things just happen in ways that we could never imagine. Since the target audience was youth in the local community, we decided to cater our program for them. Guess what? There turned out to be around twenty people in the audience and 90% of them were middle age and above. We had to go on with the program but I was worried that my teammates would be distracted by the unexpected turnout. I guess I was worrying too much! They just went into worship right away and let go of their anxiety. The brothers and sisters from Linkson Production performed a wonderful skit with a powerful message. We did not know until later that someone from the audience accepted Christ and lives were changed. Praise the Lord! The most important thing is not numbers, but God’s name exalted high!

The November event was also very unforgettable. I started to get the flu the day before and was losing my voice. I was praying fervently for God’s healing but it did not happen. Not only did it not happen, but I got worse on that day. The only prayer I had was “God, I can’t do anything else except lift this up to You!” Although my voice was really bad and I was exhausted, it did not prevent brothers and sisters from worshipping the Lord. There was one moment that I thought I was going to just fall on stage because of the fatigue but amazingly God sustained me and I was able to go on. After the event, I talked to Pastor Yeung’s wife, Kit Ling about it and she told me that it was the best worship among all three events. She felt God’s presence so strong that she just wanted to kneel down and worship God. There is nothing we can claim about this except that it is completely God’s work! God stretched us again and taught us how to be obedient. We should just let go and let God reign in us.

2004 was a year of thanksgiving and 2005 is an exciting year full of expectation. We hope that God will use Pulse to broaden His kingdom but it is really not up to us. Anthony often tells us that “it is not what we want to do for God; it’s what God wants us to do for Him.” We will humbly let God reign in our life and at every step we will follow in His way as closely as we can.
