We Could Not Have Done It Without You
Their faces keep flashing in my mind and their voices keep
echoing in my head…
The people who accepted Jesus at our concerts in Hong Kong…
the young faces that lit up during our music training sessions
in China… the grateful remarks of the congregation in Japan…
the weeping young men and women who received inner healing as
they learned to forgive those who had inflicted injustice upon
them in North East India… the 500+ crowd, ranging from teenagers
to the elderly, worshiping joyfully at the World Mission Conference
in Wisconsin, USA… the attentive looks of the people when I
spoke at a church retreat in Malaysia… the eager worship teams
of different churches that we have served here in the San Francisco
Bay Area...

| North East India |
2004 has been a fruitful year. Whenever I think of what the Lord has accomplished through jnX, I can’t hold back my tears. But what grips me the most is not how much we have done but what has made it possible. We can make elaborate plans, but it is the faithful intercession of our prayer warriors and the generous giving of our donors that sustains our work. I may be an obvious representative for jnX and be easily acknowledged for what I do upfront and on stage, but it is the selfless commitment and collective efforts and hard work of our supporters, core team and board offstage – all volunteers and often unnoticed – that carry on the ministry.

China - workshop on music theory |
2004 has also been a significant year in which jnX wrapped up our 5-year commitment for North East India. This awesome journey began with one email from Rev. Ben Chan of American Baptist International Ministries in 2000. He wrote, “Anthony, do you want to lead worship before 10,000 people? …” My wife and I prayed. God convicted us. Out of obedience we committed in faith. God sent us the right people to form a team and off we went, knowing He would provide for all our needs.

Hong Kong – demonstration on vocal harmony |
We came back changed and even more convicted to commit. That began a 5-year process of deepening compassion and commitment that has been an incredible experience for all of us. In this final year, I was thrilled that the Showers of Blessing TV crew from Canada was able to go with us to document the trip, so that the stories, the culture and the needs of this region will be made known to the world. I am proud of my team members who worked so tirelessly in preparing for the trip and I was deeply touched by the sacrifice they made to purchase and collect musical instruments to bless the churches there.

In this issue of Joyful Note, we will devote more coverage on India as we close the final chapter of God’s first long-term assignment for us. We have 3 articles: Rev. Ben Chan shares as the one who initiated the project, Milton Terang writes from his experience as the local organizer, and Stephen Woo of the TV crew, gives you his firsthand account as he witnesses God’s grace on His people. Through these articles, we hope to give you a fuller picture of the fruit of the work that you have supported and participated in for the past 5 years. Though you were not there physically, I pray by reading these articles, you can feel and grasp the excitement and passion.

USA - jnX team & Rev. Benjamin Chan at the World Mission Conference |
In the last evening of the worship conference in Diphu, North East India, a few of the local leaders and pastors shared about the impact of the worship conferences and our ministry on them over the years and asked if I had anything to say. My response was, “ I am humbled, overwhelmed and speechless.” This is also how I feel as I see God using us in other parts of the world. jnX have ministered to over 100,000 people in 8 countries and God continues to open doors for jnX to minister to even more countries.
In 2005, we will go to the Philippines and Ghana, this will be the first time for jnX to go there. I feel in my heart that the Lord is sending us to cities and towns where there are great needs and have been no other opportunities to receive training. We will try our best to fulfill the Great Commission to make disciples of Christ and teach them to be a true worshiper of God. I am so grateful that you are a part of this work and together we will do it again for the Lord as we have in the past. We cannot do it without you. From the bottom of my heart, I want to say “THANK YOU”.
His donkey,

Anthony Chan
Executive Director
